Is your
body not your buddy? Are your body and mind not working together the
way you would like them to? Is it time for a major overhaul? Do you
want to give yourself or a friend a treat?
Find out more about shiatsu massage.
Shiatsu is a Japanese massage technique, inspired by the long and
rich tradition of Eastern medicine.
In essence, it approaches thinking and feeling as a whole.
Everything is, comes from and is influenced by the same energy flow:
chi.
The word `shiatsu´ literally means `pressure by fingers´. Energy
lines (meridians) and pressure points (tsubos) are central to the
technique. Specifically directed pressure allows the life force to
flow unimpeded again, realising a healthy balance between body and
mind. Airy fairy? Nothing grounds you as solid as receiving a
shiatsu massage. Shiatsu is effective and encourages chi to flow
freely.
Shiatsu works.
Balance
A well-balanced chi gives you increased resilience. Now who does not
need that? Your self-healing ability improves and you become less
susceptible to ailments, injuries or bad moods for example. Who does not suffer
a bad mood occasionally?
A healthy chi curls the corners of
your mouth back upward and makes you feel more at
home in your own body.
You will find that the relaxing effect of a Shiatsu massage lasts a
long time. A period of two to three weeks between massages is perfect
for preserving the balance.
Of course it also depends on the
nature and severity of the complaints. In the case of advanced RSI for example,
or a burn-out, it would be advisable to follow a series of weekly
massages. These problems often have been building up for years and
need to be broken down slowly.
Back, neck and shoulder complaints, various types of headaches and
sleeping problems are easily helped. Also during the menopause
Shiatsu works very well. Having a physicaly profession
demanding much of the body a treatment feeds you.
Professions that require long
sessions in the same position often cause problems. Long hours of
concentrated work at the computer or making music are typical
activities that cause chi blockage. |

On the mat
The massage mat lies on the ground. While giving shiatsu I do not
use oils and it is best if the recipient wears loose (preferable
cotton) clothing. As not all tsubos can be accessed with the
fingers, I also use my thumbs, palms, knuckles, knees and feet.
Feet? Knees? Absolutely. Shiatsu is closely related to acupuncture.
Where acupuncture uses needles, shiatsu applies pressure, ranging in
size from the tip of a finger to the ball of a foot. Rotating the
joints and stretching have the same effect and allows the chi to flow
smoothly. I offer supplementary stretch exercises to do at home, or
wherever it suits you, to support the treatment.
A shiatsu session takes 60.
