Full powers to next cabinet according to CDA and VVD

ormer prime minister Ruud Lubbers, who is in charge of forming a new minority cabinet with the Christian Democrats (CDA) and the Liberals (VVD), moved on his first day with considerable speed.

He received all party leaders to hear their views on the political demands and views of how to proceed in the next few month.

The coalition will continue without the Liberal Democrats of D66 parliament leader Lousewies van der Laan. She still supports the social economic agenda of the coalition. It was not this area of policy that caused her to let the cabinet fall. Her party was fed up with immigration minister Rita Verdonk only.

The Fortuyn party supports the minority coalition, but has some demands. Party leader van As wouldn't say what. He seems to be glad to be taken seriously again.

Maxime Verhagen (CDA) and Mark Rutte (VVD) are pleading for a coalition that has full powers to govern. The new cabinet should be able to decide by themselves which dossiers should be handled up till the election, which will most likely take place on November 22th.

The opposition parties are comfortable with the purposed date of election. The new minority cabinet should leave controversial dossiers to a next coalition, so the electorate can vote on subjects like tax cuts, the Joint Strike Fighter, the highway A9 near the Naarder meer area, liberalisation of housing policy and the sale of Schiphol stocks.

The spokesperson of Lubbers said on Monday evening that he expects to finish this week. A new cabinet can start next week.
