D66 parliament leader will initiate a no- confidence motion

66 parliament leader Lousewies van der Laan declared on Wednesday that she might initiate a motion of no- confidence against the new cabinet.

She wants to make clear that D66 does not support a cabinet with Rita Verdonk as minister of immigration. “If the Christian Union and the SGP don't support the no- confidence motion, they are making possible a cabinet with Rita Verdonk,” according to van der Laan.

To Ruud Lubbers van der Laan declared to support the new cabinet in its economic policies and that she will also take responsibility for the budget for 2007, which will be presented in September.

The Christian Union and the SGP said in reaction that they will not support such a motion at the start of the new cabinet.

Balkenende III will be installed on Friday morning. At 14.00 hours prime minister Balkenende will make a government policy statement in parliament with afterwards a debate.
