Drucker Archives : Homepage
Drucker Archives | As a writer, teacher, and consultant for more than sixty years, Peter Drucker has created and articulated the concepts that have made management a field of legitimate academic inquiry and professional practice. Key to Professor Drucker’s vision of management is the belief that the most important asset of any organization is its people. The manager’s primary challenge, Professor Drucker believes, is to prepare and free people to perform. Professor Drucker’s interest in management extends beyond the scope of traditional business to include nonprofit organizations and entrepreneurial enterprises. Indeed, the influence of his thinking is so pervasive that he is fairly called the “father of management”.
The Drucker Archive contains the life works of this extraordinary thinker and “social ecologist”. This body of work will serve students, managers, scholars, and researchers for generations to come as the works and thoughts of Peter Drucker continue to ripple through our intellectual community.

Iraq: Torture Continues at Hands of New Government
Human Rights Watch | "Iraqi security forces are committing systematic torture and other abuses against people in detention, Human Rights Watch said in a new report released today.
" The people of Iraq were promised something better than this after the government of Saddam Hussein fell. "
The 94-page report, The New Iraq? Torture and Ill-treatment of Detainees in Iraqi Custody, documents how unlawful arrest, long-term incommunicado detention, torture and other ill-treatment of detainees (including children) by Iraqi authorities have become routine and commonplace. Human Rights Watch conducted interviews in Iraq with 90 detainees, 72 of whom alleged having been tortured or ill-treated, particularly under interrogation. "

NIC - Mapping the Global Future
NIC - Mapping the Global Future: Introduction
The international order is in the midst of profound change: at no time since the formation of the Western alliance system in 1949 have the shape and nature of international alignments been in such a state of flux as they have during the past decade. As a result, the world of 2020 will differ markedly from the world of 2004, and in the intervening years the United States will face major international challenges that differ significantly from those we face today. The very magnitude and speed of change resulting from a globalizing world—regardless of its precise character—will be a defining feature of the world out to 2020.

Conflict prevention and resolution | EU Crisis Response Capability Revisited
International Crisis Group (Crisis Group) -
EU Crisis Response Capability Revisited
Europe Report N°160
17 January 2005
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Three years after Crisis Group first took a snapshot of European Union crisis response capacity, much has changed for the better in both conflict prevention and conflict management. Mechanisms then only planned or just introduced such as the Political and Security Committee are functioning well; important new ones such as the European Defence Agency have come on line. The enlarged International Crisis Group (Crisis Group) - EU has gained experience with police and military missions in the Balkans and Africa and has just launched its most ambitious operation, replacing NATO as Bosnia's primary security provider. Nevertheless, many old problems of Council/Commission coordination have not been resolved, and fundamental questions about member state political will to act together are being asked with more urgency in the post 9/11, post-Iraq War environment. The Constitution adopted in June 2004 will help if it is ratified but the EU cannot afford to let momentum slow by turning inward during the difficult year or two while that issue is fought out.
