Four tunnels closed after
serious bomb thread
Four tunnels were closed in Amsterdam and Rotterdam on Thursday morning after a bomb thread that was delivered at the ANP news agency in Holland.
The Dutch authorities reacted by sealing of in morning traffic four main tunnels with police and special forces. The airspace above Amsterdam was also closed for a couple of hours.
Anonymous letter
At the ANP News agency an anonymous letter was delivered, warning of a car bomb attack on Thursday in Holland and more attacks world wide on Friday the 28th.
The letter contained detailed information on the cars, who were said to be stolen. The police confirmed the correctness of this information. It is also the reason for the authorities to take this thread very serious indeed and prompted the massive deployment of military Special Forces at the tunnels.
The anonymous writer states that "in principle I agree with the armed struggle against the pernicious west, but with this attack there will be so much casualties that I think I have to worn you."
The letter further states that the writer cannot reveal himself because the writer and his/ her family are otherwise in great danger.
According to the letter, in each car is a big tank filled with sulphur, nitrate and petrol. This mixture was to be exploded in the tunnels hoping to destroy them and so causing serious flooding
.
About a hundred cars were searched and eyewitnesses reported that three persons were held by the police. No further details were given.
